EGGIE Salon Studio

Baton Rouge, LA — 2020

A young and ambitious businesswoman and hairstylist, Baton Rouge-born Rachel Eggie, founder of EGGIE Salon Studio, wanted to create a luxury salon space after spending years honing her craft at one of Houston’s most elite salons. EGGIE Salon Studio is a functional and visually evocative salon that tells the owner's story while creating a luxurious experience for her clientele and colleagues alike.

The property had several unique architectural details upon which to build our design language, including an interior brick wall, 12-inch ceilings, arched windows, and lots of natural daylight. To create a high-energy, modern aesthetic tempered by these classic architectural details, we began with a design vocabulary of arched shapes, high-contrast and reflective materials, and traditional molding. Against this foundational design vocabulary, we incorporated a bold palette of black-and-white marble tile and high-contrast black-and-white wall finishes, which visually energized the salon space. Brass, velvet, and glass textures added glamour.

To create a distinct but open division between the retail and salon areas, we worked with a local manufacturer to design custom brass and glass shelving units that provided display space, storage, and a refreshment area for the salon’s clients. For privacy, the shampoo stations were tucked into the rear of the salon; a colonnade of arches divided the shampoo room from the rest of the salon, and created a dramatic starting point for the client’s experience. Working with our millwork team, each stylist station and all other salon millwork was designed specifically to accommodate the unique requirements of a hair salon.
